Marianne Clements selected for the Volunteer Award at the Swim for Life
/The Provincetown Community Compact is pleased to announce that Marianne Clements, of Vice president of Human Resources at Seamen’s Bank and dedicated Swim for Life volunteer, will receive the annual Swim for Life David Asher Volunteer Award on September 12 at the Virtual Swim for Life LIVE! The event, scheduled from 11:00 am to noon, will air on the Swim for Life Facebook page and on Provincetown TV.
Marianne’s presence in the community as a volunteer is notable. She has served on numerous town committees. She is the current chair of the Provincetown Personnel Board, former chair and current member of the Provincetown Planning Board, and former board member of the Provincetown Zoning Board. She is also a board member of Pilgrim Bark Park and the Provincetown Film Society.
There has been a symbiotic connection between Marianne Clements and the Swim for Life orbit, since her former employer, Outer Cape Health is a beneficiary of the Swim, and her present employer, Seamen’s Bank, is a business sponsor. Add to that, her role as board member and past chair of Helping Our Women, a major beneficiary of the Swim for Life.
The year she moved here full time in 2007 she discovered the Swim for Life event. “The energy on the Boatslip deck was like nothing I had experienced before,” she declared, “a not to miss experience for anyone. I was hooked,” she added.
During 30 years as a Director of Strategic Benefits Planning for Verizon Marianne would come on vacation to Provincetown. After retiring from Verizon she happily moved here full time. Retirement, however, did not suit her, and soon she could be found working at Outer Cape Health Services, as a Patient Service Representative in the Provincetown Clinic. She easily stepped into the shoes of OCHS Human Services Director when that position opened up and served there until July of 2016, when she began at her current position of Vice President of Human Resources at Seamen’s Bank.
The Virtual Swim for Life will be co-hosted by Ginny Binder, Chair of The Compact and Jay Critchley, The Compact’s executive director. The event will include archival footage of the Swim, music by Zoe Lewis, awards and special guests.
